About Me

KAINOA FUKUMOTO began his piano studies at the age of five years old, initially at Keiki Kani Music for several months. Eventually he moved to the studio of Na Mea Ho’okani Pila O Hawaii in Wahiawa. Under the tutelage of master piano teacher, Eileen Hirota, Kainoa continued his music studies through high school.
Kainoa was introduced to many musical opportunities as a student at the Kamehameha Schools from being in various school choirs to being an accompanist. As a self-taught singer and improvisationalist, he was able to adapt to various styles and genres of music. After high school, he continued his musical studies at Leeward Community College, studying with the late piano professor Ruth Pfeiffer. He transferred to and completed his studies in piano performance at the University of Hawaii at Manoa under piano professors, Dr. Thomas Rosenkranz and Dr. Jonathan Korth. Although classically trained, he specializes in contemporary improvisation and has also collaborated with many professional musicians throughout his music career.
Currently, Kainoa holds the positions of Music Director and accompanist at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Wahiawa as well as a music consultant to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu. He was formerly a piano instructor at The Performing Artist Academy and formerly music teacher at St. Michael School in Waialua. After accepting the position of Principal of St. Michael School, he no longer actively teaches piano or music. He continues to be an independent performer as well as an accompanist/music consultant to various groups, churches, schools, and community organizations.
Kainoa was previously a member of the Hawaii Piano Teachers Association (HPTA) and the Hawaii Music Teachers Association (HMTA). HMTA is a chapter of the Music Teachers National Association.
Although from Wahiawa, Kainoa resides in Mililani with his beautiful wife, Yvonne, and their daughters, Maile‘ailana, ‘Ōlena Rose, and Lehua Anne.
